Tuesday tips: 10 ways to save money between jobs

    Hey guys!

Yasmine here, from life of the rich and famous! Oh wait, Im not rich nor am I famous. Lets try that again.

    Hey guys!

Yasmine here, but you already probably knew that. Anyway, life of unemployment going grand here. Actually, come to think of it, I wish I had a grand!
Speaking of money or lack thereof … I thought I would share my top 10 tips on ways to save money, especially when you are in between jobs. Since now I am basically an expert at it. This was gonna be part of my Tuesday tip series but I have a feeling this is gonna be published on Wednesday. Sorry guys!

    1. Make yourself an excel list over all your regular outgoings like your bills. The key to saving money is really understanding what you have to work with.
    2. Call your phone company and see if there is a chance you can change your phone contract to reduce monthly costs.
    3. Do you have any ‘luxuries’? Time to cut out that Starbucks coffee or your PT trainer… (I’m looking at you Yasmine!) or maybe both…
    4.  Why not try to earn a little extra money by selling stuff you don’t need?Like you know those two bin bags you have in the living room filled with unused clothes? Time to declutter your closet and refill your wallet.  (I certainly don’t have two bags of unused clothes in the living room annoying the shit out of the boyf…no siree…)
    5. Apparently, not shopping is a great way to save money so avoid all malls.
    6. Tightening your food budget is also a winner. Make a food plan for the week, do one food shopping for the week, and stick to it. A little insider tip, diet coke is cheaper in bulk but then again tap water is free.
    7. Porridge is a super cheap and healthy breakfast, and lunch and dinner. Morrisons do a HUGE bag of porridge oats for 16p.
    8. Also – if you’re shopping at Waitrose or M&S its time to swap to Lidl, Aldi or Morrisons. Reality check, you don’t need to pay £10 for 800grams of chicken. Apps like MySuperMarket are a great way to keep track on what stores are doing what deals.
    9. Look babes, lets get real here. If you are giving any part of your money away to support 3 eyed puppies that are born backwards its time to stop. You’re poor now, you’re the charity case not them.
    10. All joking aside – trying to save money does not mean giving up your social life. Instead of going out for dinner, invite your friends over games night or a movie night. You’re actually doing them a favour too by saving them money. What a good friend you are 😉

Blog post number 105 and bardot dresses

Can we just take a moment and appreciate that this is blog post number 105? I mean, A – who would have ever thought I would make it to 105? B – and who would have ever thought I had enough to say to fill, not one but one hundred and five blog posts?! Not me. Who am I kidding, of course me! Have you met me? When do I ever stop talking?

This 105 post marks something kinda new for me, embracing the life of a full-time blogger, because what else is there to do while I apply for work? – Anyway, I digress, I had a chance the other week to meet up with a fellow full-time blogger Lauren from Saharasplash for a little outfit shoot. A new experience to be mingling with the big leagues!

It also gave me the chance to bring out this absolute bargain of a dress. The bardot style is rather new to me but one I love love love. I mean seriously, who knew shoulders could be so flattering and well sexy? I didn’t!

IMG_8961 IMG_8973  It’s just a great way to show a little skin, without being vulgar, and boobie. Because that is a thing! It’s so flattering (especially for us boobie girls) you could even get it in a smaller size cause the fabric gives a little.

But the best thing about this dress is that it’s only £13!!!! Yes you read right £13! With a price tag like that, even us unemployed losers can afford to treat ourselves once in a while.  Where you might ask? Primark my dear. This sweet little bargain of joy is a such a steal I cant help but smile. Just look at the picture below. You cant fake shit like that.

Guys, guess what? IT’S BANKHOLIDAY WEEKEND!
Hello tan, hello sun, hello booze and most of all, hello all you deliciously sexy BBQ food. Get in my mouth! Seriously in weather like this, what else are long weekends for? As life of unemployment trickles on (do you like how I have basically shoehorned that in, in every blog post for the past 3 weeks? Just incase you had forgotten) I have started to get my days a little mixed up. Every day is a bank holiday to me now and I feel like I can’t really appreciate the gloriousness that is a long weekend. However, I’m not taking this sun for granted so I was super duper happy when Lauren and I had the opportunity to attend a Marinade Masterclass with Golin PR, Heinz, and chef Josh Katz at BERBER & Q Grill House (known for their grilled whole cauliflower head) in East London.

    IMG_9428 IMG_9516 IMG_9421

Josh Katz (the guy in the yellow hat above) has created some delicious dishes exclusively for Heinz, using Heinz sauces, #addalittlemagic and let me just tell you, my mouth waters just thinking about them. Not only did I get to stuff my face with them, I also got the chance to pick Josh’s brains on his best bbq tips as well as getting a chance to create the meals in a professional kitchen. DREAM COME FREAKIN TRUE for a massive foodie like me. I mean look at these pics, don’t I look like I should be a chef?  YES YES I DO! Also I look totes cute in my Heinz apron.

We smoked chicken, we blitzed the broccoli and we chargrilled some spring onions. It was hot, it was intense and it was exciting!

    #spicerackgoals #spicerackenvy

It was a day of discoveries for me like I do not hate salad cream anymore. Which for those of you know me, know this is kinda huge AND get this, I had duck and I liked it. Hell, I LOVED IT. (Wow for a wannabe chef I am surprisingly picky!)

I also discovered a few new Heinz favorites, like Heinz Peri Peri Sauce, and mustard with honey, AND OMG THE SWEET CHILLI, I just want it in and around my mouth.

The food was absoluetly to die for. The chicken wings were finger lickin’ and I am so glad I get to share the recipe with you. So if you do anything this bank holiday weekend it should be making these chicken wings yourself!

Heinz Peri Peri & Honey Glazed Smoked Chicken Wings

For the rub- preferable to rub and marinade the day before

    1tsp Smoked Paprika
    1tsp Cayenne
    ½ tsp Cumin, ground
    1tsp Black Pepper, coarse

    For the marinade

    60ml Heinz Peri-Peri Sauce
    1tbsp Lemon Juice
    10ml Maple Syrup

For the glaze- combine all together and heat on med/high before using on the wings

    150ml Heinz Peri-Peri Sauce
    90ml Clear Honey
    30ml Lemon Juice
    ½ tsp Black Pepper, coarse

Grill the wings skin side up first. You want the grill HOT and you want to make sure you have the glaze ready with brush. You want glaze the wings, flip ’em, glaze ’em again, flip, glaze and then you are done 🙂

I left full of inspiration, with a belly full of food and a bag of delicious Heinz Sauces I couldn’t wait to get home and try. Thank you so much to the team at Golin, Berber Q, Josh Katz, and Heinz for such a wonderful  day at the marinade masterclass with Heinz!

10 things that run through your mind before you quit your job

IMG_95913 weeks in and Im still riding my ‘strong independent woman’ wave so I figured I would share my empowerment! Come, grasp the moment and seize the day! Carpe Diem and all that jazz! I now feel like I made the craziest decision of my life, and you know I’m totes quite the rebellion and probably super stupid… anywho, if any of you feel inspired by my recent life choices of suddenly quitting my job, these are 10 of the tings that will run through your mind

What will I do with all my time? Will anybody ever hire me? Will I never have another job again?

    2.  Wait – How am I gonna pay my bills?

Hold on, does money grow on trees? Can I poop it? Will Kanye and Kim Kardashian adopt me?

    3. Is this actually going to make me happy?

Or will I end up sitting around in my sweatpants crying while eating fried and chilled food from oversized paper tubs?

    4. What if nobody will hire me?

What if I will never be employed again? What if it turns out I’m unemployable?

    5. Am I strong enough to do this?

Or am I silently going to go mad with all this ‘me’ time?

    6. Am I shooting my career in the foot?

That’s it, I can no longer do what I have been doing for the rest of my life. Because that was working out so well, seeing as I want to leave. Great opportunity for that career change! (Hello blogging!)

    7. How can I save a lot of money in a very short amount of time

Goodbye Costa coffee and fresh flowers. And life.

    8. Do I have enough savings?

      Probably not.

    9. Are my parents going to think I am mad?

      Probably yes

    10. Am I making the right decision?

Change is good. Make the jump, it will make you stronger 🙂

    Tuesday tip: Budget eyeshadow

It’s been a while since I have done one of these, but as I am embarking on the life of the unemployed I figured it was time to change my expensive ways. Gone are the days when I could lavish myself in eyeshadows palettes in the high double-digit range. No longer can I find an excuse to spend £35 on a foundation or avoid high street makeup brands like the plague. On the other hand, I can now spend my days in the sunshine topping up my tan.

It’s time to tighten that wallet! Just like my jeans have tightened over the years. And maybe accept the defeat in war against high street makeup brands.

I mean don’t get me wrong, it’s not like they are bad, they just arent you know… They aren’t Chanel and well that kinda hurts my soul a little. Ok a lot…

But then I came across this puppy and my heart melted

The perfect combination to my Mac, Cravings Amplified. The perfect combination with NYX Matte Creme in Copenhagen. The perfect makeup look for 2016. The perfect palette. So pigmentated you wonder, where have you been my whole life? With a shimmery light base layer, and bright orange that resembles freshly squeezed peach juice. Complimented by a matte brown and red, a red so deep and burgundy you want to sip on a smooth glass of red wine while you look at it. It’s perfection in a little black case.

Beautiful isnt it? You can pick it up on the NYX website for 10 whole dollars and you can thank me later. If thats not a bargain I dont know what is! Here is a little selfie of me all dolled up with it.

    Beauty, Tip

Sundays are still held holy in our house. Regardless of situations, and plans Sunday, at least a few hours are set aside to recharge and reenergize. Whether it’s catching up with some Come Dine With Me or some spa treatments. Like I have mentioned before I love a good home spa session and as I slowly approach 30, I have also come to realise how important it is to take care of my skin. Especially my facial skin. Enter Kiehl’s! I first tried Kiehl’s 4 years ago, when I at a whim bought their Midnight recovery concentrate. I remember I was super sceptical but the next morning I swore I saw a difference from day one! Then when they launched the under eye midnight recovery concentrate I jumped on that too and again, woke up the next morning after day 1 and I’m pretty sure I saw a difference again. The love has been strong between Kiehl’s and I ever since.

My next purchase was their Micro Dermabrasion scrub. After being told by a facial expert that you should at least exfoliate your face 3 times a week this seemed like a solid purchase. Again I was not disappointed. Then this beauty of a facial cream walked into my life. Ultra Facial Cream, perfect for my dry dehydrated skin!  I vowed then I would never cheat.

One of the tings I love about Kiehl’s is that all their products have this light, fresh scent. A clean scent if that makes sense. I often find facial products heavily perfumed so this makes a great contrast. If you’re looking to test them out, you can drop by your local Kiehl’s and ask for samples 🙂 They really do work, for me at least!

Also appreciate my increased flatlay skills.

    Wearin’ sunglasses too

    Sponsored post

Ladies and gentleman, I am about to share with you a huge secret. The secret of one of the benefits of life of unemployment. Can you guess it? It is that you have all the time in the world to attend mid-week blog events. And you can spend hours trying to perfect your outfit. And makeup. Like contouring. Who has time for that shit? I do! No wonder all my favorite bloggers look so fabulous!

So you spend all this time putting stuff together just to realise all your outfits suck because you are not a natural fashion icon. So to show a middle finger to all those who say curvy (love handle) girls can’t wear bodycon dresses I threw on this little treat of a Primark dress that cost a whopping £10. I tied a shirt around my waist in a desperate attempt to hide said love handles, put on some sexy shades and walked, no strutted out the door. Off I went to #ANEVENINGWITH organized by the River Island Studio.

It’s not the dress I want to talk about though. It’s the shades. They are from a brand called Retro London, launched by Nicholas King (who designed for the likes of Chanel, John Galliano and Donna Karen!) and are part of their limited edition range where all profits go to Orbis whose treatments prevent avoidable blindness. Love supporting a good cause when I can 🙂

Gifted by the lovely, you can now get them in the sale by clicking here! But hurry, they only have 3 pairs left of this model! And just so you know, Sunglasseshop offer free shipping in Norway (and the US, and Australia and the rest of Europe) and are vat registered! That means no extra hidden cost for you! Which if you live in Norway, and are a savvy online shopper you know this is kinda a big freaking deal.

    IMG_9298 IMG_9305

Now excuse me while I strut my stuff in my awesome shades basically imagining I’m Demi Levato in ‘Cool for the summer’ to my bbq event with Heinz today. Speak to you laters peeps!

Ps. Although these sunnies were gifted, the options and views of the product are my own.

    Matcha cupcakes

Ok so before you say anything, yes I can still appreciate the weekends, maybe not the bank holiday weekend but a regular weekend. Hell yes.
Monday marks my 3rd week of unemployment, which took me by surprise. These weeks have gone so incredibly fast, and I have no shortage of things to fill my time with. Like deciding to make cupcakes. A matcha cupcake, with strawberry frosting. Say WHAAAAT? Hola Cheat day you sexy thing! Also they photograph better than Marilyn Monroe. I mean, check out these puppies! And you know, appreciate my flat lay skills.

They also mark the end of the Matcha week here on the blog, which is a little sad so I might just have to do one again soon. Anway I bet you’re a little jelly right now. I would be too if I were you. But fret not mon petit cheri ! I have the recipe for ya right here! I’m nice like that.

Also don’t you judge me for my lack of piping skills. That shit is hard man!

    Ingredients Cupcakes

    1 and 1/2 cup all-purpose flour

    1 cup sugar

    1 1/2 tsp. baking powder

    1/2 tsp. salt

    1 tbsn. matcha powder

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened, cut into 1-inch cubes

    2 large eggs

    1/2 cup Almond Vanilla Milk

    Ingredients Frosting

    2 cup frosting sugar

Half a tub of Cream Cheese

    1/4 cup chopped strawberries

    Method Cupcakes
    • Combine flours, sugar, baking powder, salt and matcha powder.
    • Add the butter
    • Whisk together the eggs, milk and vanilla.
    • Add the wet ingredients in 3 parts, beat until ingredients are incorporated but do not overbeat. Divide the batter evenly among liners, filling about 2/3 full. Bake until an inserted toothpick comes out clean, 17 – 20 minutes. Transfer to a wire rack and let cool completely.
    Method Frosting

Mix together sugar and cream cheese with an electric mixer until it becomes froffy. (Yes I have made up a word)

Slowly fold in chopped strawberries and lightly mix with mixer to make it all pink.

Now eat your heart out baby!

Kicking off Green Tea with – Homemade Matcha iced latte

Alright beauties, its time to kick off Matcha week here on the blog. Why have I decided to base an entire week around green tea? Not only is green tea full of antioxidants and nutrients but it also helps improve brain function, fat loss, a lower risk of cancer and many other incredible benefits. Its like skinny in a form of a drink! Which is all super duper great, but to me green tea taste like cod liver oil. And nobody in the right mind wants to drink that for pleasure. It took a long long time to get used to drinking it and even now I much prefer lemon or mango green tea over the regular none flavored kind. So I decided to start looking into other ways I can get my green tea on, and in walked Matcha Lattes. I love love love love matcha lattes. It’s like a Chai Latte, but not as intense and green obviously.

Only problem is, its like 25 degrees out. I don’t want a warm cozy cup of Matcha Latte. I want something cold and fresh. I want something that will cool me down.

I introduce an Iced Matcha Green Tea Latte, pause for applause.
Now you can find lots of recipes for this online, this is just my little twist.

    • 1 1/2 cup Vanilla almond milk (Diamond Breeze is on offer at Sainos right now for £1 – RUN RUN RUN RUN)
    • 1 teaspoons matcha green tea powder
    • 1 teaspoons honey (increase this if you feel the matcha is too over powering!)
    1. Place all ingredients in a blender and blend  until the matcha powder is dissolved, or put in a shaker and shake shake shake. Pour over ice.

Voila! Iced Matcha latte! Yum yum yum! Healthy, and very low in kcal!

You can even double and triple this recipe and store in the fridge.
    I’d say no more than 3 days…

Are you a matcha lover? I would love to know your favorite green tea recipe!
